With the certified EKG technician (CET), you’ll have the credentials nearly all healthcare employers require to perform the critical tasks of administering EKGs, as well as Holter monitoring and stress testing. These tests can be performed during physical exams, when cardiovascular problems are suspected, or in preparation for surgery. The need for qualified EKG technicians continues to rise as the aging population in America grows (and with it, the prevalence of heart-related conditions).

By administering EKGs — testing the electronic activity of the heart through small electrode patches attached to the body — you'll be making a life-changing difference, helping people of all ages prevent and treat heart disease. As an EKG tech, you may perform some or all of the following tasks:

  • Set up and administer EKGs (electrocardiograms) and stress tests
  • Prepare patients for Holter or ambulatory monitoring
  • Edit and deliver final test results to physicians for analysis
  • Schedule appointments
  • Transcribe physicians' interpretations

Requirement:

  • Must be 16 years or older
  • State-issued ID card from any State, Passport, Green card or Driver’s License
  • High School Diploma or GED or Graduating from high school or a GED program within 12 months
  • No Immunizations or vaccinations are required
  • Uniforms/scrubs and closed-toe, closed-heel shoes are required for skill practice.
  • AHA BLS (CPR) Certificate (before taking the certificate exam)

Duration: 6-week course with 1-day clinical practice (10 times EKG practice in person).

After taking the course, you will be qualified to take the certification exam (NHA CET).
